I know where the orchid grows.
Dec. 29th, 2011 02:43 pmThere are a lot of flat, green leaves in one part of the forest, growing in the thin soil over a rock. The leaves are striped with white and grow up delicately before resting on the dead leaves below. As time goes by and winter drags on, they get bumpier and battered. They lie there through early spring.
Then they give up, die back, and one green stalk grows up; that green stalk blooms and dies, and then the leaves come up again.
It's a puttyroot orchid, a surprisingly blah name for a lovely plant.
